An open-pit mining operation carried out by a certain mining group in Inner Mongolia resulted in a massive accumulation of waste soil from work face clearing, which occupied a large amount of land. To protect the environment,artificial vegetation has been planted and the abandoned land at the spoil dump has been greened through the implementation of a spray irrigation and greening project.

The spray irrigation and greening project draws surface water from local lakes. The main pipelines adopt PVC-O pipes with specifications of dn250, dn200, and dn160 mm. The spray outlets are DN40 mm metal standpipes. The total length of the pipelines is 178 km. The project installation was swift, taking just over two months to be successfully completed and put into operation. The once-barren dump site now boasts a vegetation coverage rate of over 85%. Trees and lawns, nourished by the gentle spray irrigation, are lush and green. In January 2021, it was successfully included in the national list of green mines.
